Cellulite – What Is It?

How Cellulite Appears
Cellulite, also known as cellulitis or celulitus, is nothing more than deposits of fat trapped in pockets beneath a person’s skin. “Cottage cheese thighs” is a common complaint used to describe the lumpy appearance of the skin caused by fat pushing against the connective tissues that reside just below the surface of the skin. But cellulite doesn’t just affect the thighs, it can also show up on the buttocks, abdomen and hips.
How To Identify Cellulite
The best way to identify the presence of cellulite is to pinch and roll a small area on your thigh. If it appears lumpy and bumpy, then you probably have cellulite. It is unsightly but quite normal; in fact, 80% of most females will have cellulite at some point in their lives.
There are quite a few factors that can lead to the development of cellulite: your genes, your gender and how much fat there is present in your body are all leading factors and, mostly, out of a person’s control. In addition, age and skin thickness also play a part in the development of cellulite.
Once you realize you have cellulite you will then need to look for treatment options. Unfortunately, there are no miracle products that can make the condition disappear overnight or completely.
One method of getting rid of cellulite is liposuction. This surgical procedure helps remove excess fat from the thighs, hips, abdomen and upper arms. A non-surgical procedure called mesotherapy involves numerous injections containing various types of drugs that aim to diminish the problem. But your doctor may warn you that even liposuction might not effectively help get rid of cellulite. Safe, alternative methods to eliminate unnecessary body fat do exist but, in this day and age of the quick fix, many men and women refuse to admit that diet and exercise can help reduce the appearance of cellulite.
There are also creams, lotions, massage mitts and more that promise to help women get rid of cellulite. And now there are even underwear that can help melt away the lumps and bumps. It’s called The Scala Bio-Fir Underpants and it’s the first anti-cellulite garment that’s said to help reduce cellulite.
